massage

Healing through touch is a natural human instinct and massage is an age-old method of restoring and maintaining vitality, found in many cultures worldwide.  Touch is one of the first senses to develop, which may be why massage also helps us to feel nurtured. Think about when a child falls we instinctively rub the area which is sore to help comfort and soothe the pain. We hug our friends and loved ones when they are upset giving a caring nurturing touch.

Holistic Therapeutic Massage

massage16Holistic Massage is one of the most effective ways of relaxing and relieving stress and tension. It helps to stimulate the circulation, soothes and calms the nervous system and relieves tired and tense muscles. Working with a holistic approach, I will guide the massage to your individual needs, physical, mental and emotional. It is person centred and guided by principles of sensitivity, awareness and quality of touch.

Therapeutic massage encourages relaxation and may help to reduce the symptoms of stress which can build up over a long period of time. Symptoms such as insomnia, backache, headaches, neck and shoulder problems, also anxiety and depression may be improved dramatically with massage.

As with Reflexology a consultation will be initially carried out and I will help you to identify through massage and working together where you may hold your tension.  My price list indicates the price for the length of time for a massage as opposed to for example, a type of massage such as a relaxing full body or back massage. This is because the treatment is individual, it is tailored to your needs! For example, if you stand for many hours you may feel the benefit from a relaxing foot and leg massage or perhaps you hold tension in your jaw, therefore facial massage may help. I very much encourage massage to be a two way communication to ensure that you get the best out of your time and treatment.

Hot Stone Massage

Hot basalt stones are used to enhance the massage experience, giving a wonderfully relaxing treatment. It is said that one stroke with a stone is like ten with a hand allowing deep tissue release and total relaxation.

Hot stones were used in ancient civilizations in Egypt, China, Hawaii and by native Americans during cleansing for ritual purpose. As a western holistic treatment it is relatively new but very much welcomed and loved by many.

I work with the stones, guided by the same principles as I do with my therapeutic massage. Along with some of the existing benefits of massage, you may also feel a deep comfort in receiving warmth on the body and the heat may relieve pain in muscles and joints.

Indian Head Massage

Indian Head Massage has been used for thousands of years to treat mnd, body and soul. It is particularly good for reducing the effects of stress and anxiety, releasing tension in tight, overworked muscles.

It is a relaxing and also invigorating seated massage of the shoulders, upper back, neck, head, arms and face to help release and float away the stress often held in this area of the body. It may help relieve headaches and sinus tension and can be carried out over clothing or with your upper garments removed to uncover the shoulders and allow oil to be used.
